Cheerleaders bring ‘cheer’ to patients at cancer institute
The Taylorsville High School cheerleading squad, under the direction of coach Chalise Farr, presented blankets to patients at the Infusion Unit of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The fleece blankets, each 5’x4’ in size, are given to patients after they complete their chemotherapy treatment sessions. They are affectionately called “graduation blankets.”
Megan Siebach and Sarah Paul of the squad head up the committee in charge of scheduling service projects for the cheerleaders. This latest experience brought with it many tears and hugs as they came to the institute. One of the squad members said she is looking into pursuing a career in Oncology.
Blanca Raphael, the volunteer coordinator at the Huntsman Institute, said the blankets are an ongoing need for the facility. Anyone interested in helping in a similar way can reach her at 801-581-7169.
