It is time once again for orientation and registration for the annual Miss Kearns Pageant, where the Kearns Royalty will be chosen for 2012 and will represent the Kearns community throughout the year. A joint orientation and registration meeting is set for Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the choral room of Kearns High School, 5525 South Cougar Lane (4800 West).

Eligibility is open to all young ladies living within the Kearns community boundaries who will be a sophomore, junior or senior in high school next school year. They do not have to attend Kearns High School. Those currently in ninth grade are also eligible to enter.

Paula Larsen, who has directed the pageant for many years, says the Miss Kearns program is about more than just wearing a crown.

“Through the process of preparing for the pageant, young ladies will embark on an amazing journey of reaching new horizons, receive an understanding of who they are, and possibly accomplish things they never knew they could,” she said. “It is not a beauty pageant and no special talents are required and are not addressed as such. The focus of the pageant and program is to help each young lady recognize they are unique, turn their weaknesses into strengths, prepare them for the future, but most of all help them to understand how important they are in life.”

There is a $40 non-refundable registration fee. Parents or guardians are encouraged to come to the orientation meeting as well. Those with questions can contact Larsen at 801-963-9150, or by email at robertandpaula90@msn.com.
