Kearns High to perform ‘Little Shop of Horrors’
Kearns High School theatre students will kick off the Halloween season with their production of "Little Shop of Horrors."
Performances will be held Wednesday thru Saturday, Nov. 16-19, at 7 p.m., in the school's auditorium. All tickets are $5, available at the door or in advance from the school bookkeeper. Kearns High is located at 5525 South Cougar Lane.
Featuring music by beloved Disney composer Alan Menken, "Little Shop of Horrors" is based on themes from 1950s science fiction.
"It's entertaining for the whole family," theatre instructor Karen Whiting said. "The music's fun, the dancing's fun, the characters are fun."
Seymour and Audrey are co-workers at a failing flower shop, and secretly in love with each other. Then one day, Seymour discovers a strange little Venus flytrap-like plant, and brings it to the shop. The plant needs blood to live, and promises to make Seymour's dreams come true if only he will keep bringing blood for it to eat. The plant soon grows out of control, and threatens not only Seymour and Audrey's chance of happiness together, but the end of the human race as well. The musical is more funny than scary, and includes such well-known songs as "Suddenly Seymour," "Somewhere That's Green," "Dentist" and "Don't Feed the Plants."
Taylorsville High School also held its fall musical production recently. Students performed "The Mikado" on Oct. 13-18.
