Local students share ideas to help Taylorsville go green
Four Taylorsville elementary school students were recently honored for their entries in a contest titled “Green Ideas for Taylorsville.”
The city’s Green Committee sponsored the contest, and asked elementary aged students to submit ideas to help Taylorsville to become more environmentally-friendly. The committee received a tremendous amount of entries and chose four winners.
Aspen Earnhart of Plymouth Elementary said it was a subject that meant a lot to her. She had several ideas and narrowed it down to one main one for the contest. Her suggestion was to have recycling facilities provided for the apartment, townhome, and condo complexes in Taylorsville.
“My family is very willing to recycle, if we had the facilities available. I think others might be like that, too,” Aspen said. She won a $50 grand prize for her efforts.
Three students were chosen for $25 gift cards. They were Bridgett Raymundo from Vista Elementary, Kiana Eslhelson from Fox Hills Elementary and Henrie Holder from Bennion Elementary. Bridgett, Kiana and Henrie submitted ideas for planting more trees.
Jack Lucas, chairman of the Green Committee, hopes Taylorsville implements some of the ideas, particularly Aspen’s. “I would like to see Aspen take her idea to apartment, condo, and townhome complexes, where they’re needed,” he said.
