The Taylorsville Senior Center is located at 4743 South Plymouth View Drive. Phone 801-293-8340 for more information. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon. Cost for patrons over 60 is $2.50; $5.25 for patrons under 60. Sign up 24 hours in advance. Transportation is available for those who need it. Sign up by calling the center.

May 25, 11:30 a.m. – Flag Ceremony for Memorial Day

1 p.m. – “Maintain Your Brain” Workshop. A free education series. Learn how to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.

May 28 – Senior Center Closed for Memorial Day

May 31, 11:30 a.m. – Entertainment by Mississippi Mood

12 p.m. – Special Buffet Lunch

June 5 – Birthday Tuesday. If your birthday is in June, help us celebrate at lunchtime.

11 a.m. – Entertainment: Taylorsville Harmonica Band

June 7, 9:45 a.m. – Morning at the Movies. Movie: “The Iron Lady.” Popcorn and drinks served.

June 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – AARP Defensive Driving Class. With a 30-minute lunch break. $12 for AARP members; $14 for nonmembers.

June 15, 2 to 4 p.m. – Father’s Day Celebration. All the guys are invited to join us for a classic car show followed by refreshments.

June 19, 9:45 a.m. – Morning at the Movies. Movie: “Jack and Jill.” Popcorn and drinks served.

June 20, 11 a.m. – “Who Gets Grandma’s Pie Plate?” Discussion on financial planning.

June 21, 5 p.m. – Evening at the Center. Potluck and Bingo.

Ongoing Activities

Mondays

Chair Aerobics – Follow a video with chair aerobics specifically designed for seniors. (Mon./Wed./Fri.)

Diabetic Support – Taught by center volunteers and a registered Dietician. This class covers healthy food decisions, health issues, etc.

Bridge – Come and play a fun game of bridge.

Tai Chi – The ancient art of tai chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today's busy lifestyles and improve health. (Mon./Wed.)

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Walk with Kelly – During the summer months enjoy a short walk around the park: during the winter walk indoors, followed by light chair stretching.

Hookers Crocheting Club – Don’t let the name fool you. If you enjoy crocheting, come and be a hooker.

Wood Carving – If you are a wood carver and want to join others and share your masterpieces then this class is for you. Volunteers will also give you advice on how to take up woodcarving.

Alzheimer’s Group – Group activity for patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, in conjunction with Aspen Senior Care and Utah Alzheimer’s Association. For more information contact Sylvia Brunisholz at 801-265-1944.

Line Dancing – Join Bonnie and her line dancing class for a fun time. Also a great workout.

Pinochle – We are always looking for more people to play.

Enhanced Fitness – An exercise class tailored for seniors. Involves chair exercises with weights, stretching and cardio.

Yoga – Come to yoga taught by a certified instructor. Class modified for seniors.

Wednesdays

Hair Cuts with Butch – Caters mostly to men; $3.

Bingo- Twenty-five cents for a piece of candy plus a bingo card; additional candy and bingo cards $.25 each.

Fridays

Gloria’s Beauty Shop – Caters mostly to the women. Gloria specializes in haircuts and perms. Call 801-293-0222 for pricing.

T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) – Eat too much candy over the holidays? Join T.O.P.S. They can give you the advice, motivation and knowledge of how to lose weight and keep it off.

Beginning Spanish– Join this class taught by volunteers to learn how to speak and communicate in Spanish.
