New Walgreens to be built in Kearns
Walgreens Pharmacy is coming to Kearns. The Kearns Township Planning Commission has given preliminary approval to developers who will build a new Walgreens as part of a 10-acre commercials subdivision on the northeast side of 5600 West 6200 South. The property is owned by the Utah Department of Transportation, which is selling the land to a developer.
Nancy Moorman, planning specialist with Salt Lake County’s Planning and Development Services Division, said the Walgreens store will occupy 1.5 acres of the site. Approval has been granted for development of six other small businesses on that property. Cottonwood Capital is the developer of the commercial subdivision.
“The next step is for the developer to complete items for the technical review,” she said. “At that point, once plans are approved, a building permit can be issued.”
Walgreens hopes to have the new store open by Fall 2013, in time for the holiday shopping season. Moorman said her understanding is if that timeframe can’t be met, the developer may delay construction until 2014.
Future tenants of the commercial subdivision have not been announced, as negotiations are continuing with the developer.
